Last week, we revealed the top international airlines in 2010 based on scheduled passenger kilometres (SPKs). This week, we bring you last year’s top airlines based on the number of passengers carried.
Please note that this ranking covers only international services – those between countries. IATA publishes a separate ranking of the world’s top airlines on domestic routes, a list dominated by US and Chinese carriers.
The two budget airlines, Ryanair and easyJet, which ferry bucketloads of passengers to holiday destinations across Europe, again figure highly in the international ranking. Emirates, the world’s top airline by SPKs, is fifth in this list.
The figures are taken from the 55th edition of IATA’s World Air Transport Statistics. Click here to start reading the rankings.
