airberlin, Europe's sixth biggest carrier, commenced a brand new service to Abu Dhabi this week, with the inaugural Airbus A330-200 flight leaving Berlin on Sunday evening and arriving to a water canon salute at Abu Dhabi International Airport on Monday morning. airberlin will operate the new flights in conjunction with Etihad Airways, following last month's announcement that the UAE-based carrier would become airberlin's largest single shareholder.
